The Process for a Driver

After a clinical and behind the wheel evaluation are completed, the CDRS will:

​

  • ​Assess your ability to transfer in/out of your vehicle

  • Assess your ability to transfer your mobility device in/out of your vehicle

  • Determine vehicle capability for wheelchair/scooter transport

  •  Assess your driving position

  • Assess ability to operate vehicle controls (gas/brake, steering, etc)

  • Determine need for adaptive equipment, ramp/lift, etc

  • Ensure your vehicle is compliant with standards and guidelines 

  • Trial equipment in vehicle

  • Ensure your trained and licensed to drive with recommended equipment

The Process for a Passenger

If you are transitioning from a driver to a passenger, we will work with you to ensure safety and confidence during travel. 

​

  • ​Assess your ability to transfer in/out of your vehicle

  • Assess your ability to transfer your mobility device in/out of your vehicle

  • Determine if you will need to remain in mobility device during travel

  • Determine vehicle capability for wheelchair/scooter transport

  •  Assess your driving position

  • Assess your caregiver/significant other's ability to assist with transfer (if needed)

  • Trial equipment and transfers with you and/or your caregiver/significant other

  • Ensure vehicle compliance with standards and guidelines
